Let’s face it. These days, social media is unavoidable. Almost everyone uses it — my great aunt included (hi, Aunt Mae!) — but there’s a difference between using social media and using it well. And that difference is having a social media strategy.

I’ve spent nearly a decade learning the ins and outs of digital marketing. I’ve crafted social media strategies for small businesses, non profits, larger companies, authors, entrepreneurs, and more. And – while the platforms continue to change — some things have stayed the same.

1. You need to have a strategy.

A social media strategy is the difference between firing one hundred arrows blindfolded versus five arrows aiming straight at your target. Yes, your Instagram presence might be helping your business. Sure, the time you’re spending on Twitter could be beneficial. And, to some degree, I’m sure it is.

However, when it comes to business (or branding), your return-on-investment matters. What most people don’t realize? With social media, your biggest investment isn’t money.

It’s your time.

Round-Up: 6 Ways to Overcome Writer’s Block


Ah, writer’s block. The plight of mankind. It’s impacted every writer or creative at some point or another, and if it hasn’t gotten to you yet…well, it will.

Chances are you’ve dealt with writer’s block multiple times and in a variety of different ways. Personally, I’ve been locked in its grips more than once, and I’ve discovered that different bouts of writer’s block often require different strategies to overcome it.

It’s not simply that you can’t write, sometimes there is a reason behind the frustration. A mental blockage can stop you from putting a single word on paper, sure, but so can a whole host of other things.

In the end, there is no one-size-fits-all method to break writer’s block. Otherwise, we’d all own the book about it and be following some writer’s block guru on Twitter right now instead of reading this post.

However, the Internet does provide us with several wonderful ideas for overcoming your particular brand of writer’s block, and here are some of my favorites.
